Boxing may be known as the sweet science but Chris Eubank Jr is taking a decidedly alternative approach to recovering from his elbow injury.

The 27-year-old has decided to turn to the traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture in an attempt to return to peak physical fitness.

Eubank Jr shared photographs of the session on his Instagram story, although only one needle could be seen relative to the typical session, which involves inserting between five and 20 needles.

He was meant to defend the British middleweight title against Tommy Langford on Saturday but pulled out of that fight in the middle of September after suffering the injury.

Eubank Jr also relinquished his belt. His camp claimed that the injury occurred during training after he sparred with a 14st opponent.

Relinquishing the belt has opened up the field of the boxer's potential opponents in the future.

His management team have declared that he will be moving away from British-level due to his 'fighting prowess'.

A statement read: 'It has become clear to Chris Eubank Jnr's management over these past few months how much danger the health and lives of these contenders are in, therefore the relinquishing of the British Championship due to injury sustained in a sparring session is perhaps a blessing in disguise.'

The statement referenced the injuries suffered by Nick Blackwell, who went into a coma after fighting Eubank Jr in March.
