The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards have wrapped and let's just get it out of the way: Veep. Game of Thrones. The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story. Got it? Good. "It’s just nice to be nominated" is true of every person up until the point where a winner is chosen. We've been keeping a running tally of all the winners so far tonight.

Amazon’s Transparent took an early lead in the comedy categories with two wins — one for directing, and one for lead actor Jeffrey Tambor, who used his speech to call for more transgender performers in transgender roles: "I would not be unhappy [if I were] the last cisgender man to play a female transgender on TV." Ultimately, though, top honor went to Veep for the second year in a row.

The second hour was dedicated to limited series, which is to say, The People v. O.J. Simpson: An American Crime Story. Ryan Murphy’s new crime serial took home five awards, including three acting awards for Marcia Clark, Johnnie, Cochran, and Christopher Darden (or rather, their portrayers).

Bridging the gap between limited series and drama, Key & Peele took home best variety sketch for its final season, while John Oliver's Last Week Tonight won the variety talk award that The Daily Show, Oliver's former home, used to dominate.

While the final hour leaned heavily in Game of Thrones' favor, winning the top drama award as well as statues for writing and directing, the acting nods went everywhere else. Rami Malek won for Mr. Robot, Tatiana Maslany for Orphan Black (finally), Ben Mendelsohn for Bloodline, and Dame Maggie Smith for Downton Abbey (that last one is perhaps less surprising).
