Hands On Nashville has named a new president and CEO.

Lori Shinton, who most recently served as interim executive director, was elevated to the top spot by the organization’s board of directors after a nationwide search.

“We’ve been incredibly impressed with Lori – in her operations role, and throughout the search process,” said Hands On Nashville Board Chair, Janet McDonald. “Since joining the team, she has worked tirelessly and passionately to encourage dialogue with our community partners, gain an in-depth understanding of how volunteers can support this community in new ways, and focus the organization on the most relevant volunteer needs and opportunities in Middle Tennessee.”

Shinton has also served as vice-president for operations at HON, and has developed a key pilot concept called collective volunteerism, meant to better meet community needs through partnerships with local organizations.

“Hands On Nashville was built on the foundation that each one of us can make a difference,” Shinton said. “Over the last 25 years volunteers have provided real solutions to complex issues facing our community, and I am honored to serve as President and CEO as we begin our next 25 years.”

Shinton previously served as chief operating officer for the YWCA of Nashville and Middle Tennessee and was an assistant commissioner in the state’s Department of Human Services.
