The man who famously threw his melted Baked Alaska in the bin on Bake Off’s 2014 series made an unlikely choice of wedding cake on Friday.

Northern Irish Iain Watters has got hitched to his long-term girlfrend, and a snap from a fellow Bake Off contestant who attended has revealed he actually had a Baked Alaska at the reception.

How brave.

Viewers will remember that Iain’s exit from the show caused controversy as he blamed fellow baker Diana Beard for removing his Alaska from the freezer, thereby melting it.

In a rage, Iain dumped his creation in the bin and stormed out of the tent, before presenting judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry with the bin itself as his submission.

At the time GBBO fans were outraged that Iain’s efforts had been ‘sabotaged’, but a look at his beautiful wedding Alaska shows he can definitely turn a decent one out.

His former competitor Martha Collison celebrated with him at the ceremony, remarking on Instagram: ‘Is there a better wedding ake for @iain_watters?!’.

We’re glad Iain’s wife Catriona Mills didn’t spoil the Alaska process as we’re not convinced the wedding would have gone ahead.

The big day was well-attended by Bake Off alumni and Richard Burr contributed a carrot cake, a Lotus Biscoff cake and a lemon meringue layer cake to the celebrations.

In fact, there were at least 14 cakes on offer at the ‘cake bar’, which was helmed by Richard and semi-finalist Chetna Makan. Yum.

Clearly the camaraderie is strong with the Bake Off crew.

Congratulations, Iain and Catriona!
