Watch: 'Juan Likes Rice & Chicken' Pokes Fun at 'Jiro Dreams of Sushi'

IFC's 'Documentary Now!' parodies the acclaimed sushi film

Filmmaker David Gelb's 2011 documentary Jiro Dreams of Sushi is, by all accounts, a very good movie; chronicling Tokyo's octogenarian perfectionist sushi chef Jiro Ono, it was widely adored by critics and viewers alike. That doesn't mean it's not ripe for parody, however.

Documentary Now!, the Emmy-nominated IFC mockumentary series that "lovingly pays homage to the world of documentaries," will take aim at Jiro this season with an episode titled "Juan Likes Rice & Chicken." Portlandia's Fred Armisen plays a young Colombian chef named Arturo who's preparing to take over the family restaurant — which serves only one painstakingly-crafted dish, chicken and rice — when his 83-year-old father Juan hangs up his hat.

The episode is slated to air Wednesday, September 21 at 10 p.m. EST/PST. And for more food-related stuff to watch, do scope out Eater's fall TV preview.
