When opening a new restaurant sometimes it helps to have a hook to get people through the door. Some go with drink specials or an absurd viral menu item. Others invite their former Ghostbuster dad to tend bar. Actor Bill Murray slipped behind the bar at his son Homer’s newly opened 21 Greenpoint on Friday night attracting huge crowds despite the fully-booked guest list. “What my dad lacks in experience, he makes up for in tequila,” Homer told Eater NY prior to the event.

As hundreds of fans lined the block, Murray took a casual approach to his temporary job, pouring and taking shots as customers shouted out orders. He even worked in a few dance moves.

It wasn’t all about the drinking though. As People reports, the Groundhog Day weatherman took a moment to toast his son’s new venture. “I am so happy that he has not continued in the family business,” he says. “Instead, he has taking the joy of the family to have a drink, and have a meal, and have friends together in one place, and made it his life’s work. To my son, and his friends, and his work friends and all of his partners.” Murray is expected to return to 21 Greenpoint on Saturday night for another round at the bar.

This isn’t the first time the Caddyshack star has crossed the bar. In 2010, Murray surprised fans at SXSW by pouring tequila shots and whiskey at Shangri’la. The barfly, who lives in Charleston, has also been known to perform impromptu piano duets in New York cocktail lounges with actress Emma Stone.
