COIE – A view from the Industry

The recent Cortech Open Innovation Event (COIE) hosted at Cortech Developments headquarters in July proved to be another successful event. The breakdown of attendees included end users (57%), consultants (39%) and main Contractors (4%).  Attending organisations included Babcock International, UKTI, WSP Parsons Brinckerhoff, SGW Consulting Group, Waterco, UK Power Reserve and Jacobs, amongst others.

COIE attendee Pedr Jones, consultant at Waterco Consultants, said of the event:“I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to the Cortech Open Innovation Event. The morning provided a great opportunity to see a demonstration of several intrusion prevention, detection and alarm products integrated within a single Control Room environment. Many of the solutions presented are very relevant to the water sector and the Security and Emergency Measures Direction. Advancements in the Control Room environment certainly highlighted opportunities for reducing the costs associated with loss, theft and vandalism across water companies’ assets.”

Fellow attendee Derek Follows, technical director at Jacobs UK, also commented: “It’s unusual to attend a seminar where there are many safety and security specialists working together to provide an integrated solution for our clients. This is what Cortech successfully organised as part of its Open Innovation Event. Not only were the hardware systems discussed, but also the security of software and cyber interfaces. This was a thought-promoting process which accentuated the possible risks and vulnerabilities of many installed systems.”

Follows continued: “The experience was augmented by real-time demonstrations of the recording and control of security situations within various applications, ranging from fire detection and CCTV monitoring through to presence detection and perimeter detection. It was an excellent event, and one that was invaluable for contractors, specifiers and clients alike.”

The next COIE is hosted at the Lighthouse in Glasgow, 14 September 2016.
