Twitter said to launch new economical tweets Sept. 19
Changes will let users shoehorn in more words by exempting certain features from its 140-charcter limit.
Twitter will roll out promised changes next week that make it possible to get more words into your tweets, according to one report.
Twitter users will be able to squeeze more words into their tweets thanks to changes the social network plans to launch on September 19, The Verge reported Monday.
The changes will exempt certain features from counting toward its 140-character limit, including media attachments such as photos, GIFs, videos and polls. To a lesser degree, the @names in tweet replies will also not be counted toward the limit.
The changes were announced in May, but Twitter didn't say at the time when we could expect them. The microblogging site declined to comment on the report.
Twitter's miserly character count has been a bone of contention for users. There were rumors earlier this year that Twitter was considering allowing tweets up to 10,000 in characters. Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey ended that speculation in March by telling NBC's "Today" show that the 140-character limit is staying.
