Check in on progress for North Mountain bike trails

This summer, DNR and Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance are constructing mountain bike trails at the base of North Mountain, near Darrington. Congresswoman Suzan DelBene joined DNR, Evergreen, and Snohomish County staff this August to see the progress and talk with some local Darrington youth who get to be a part of building trails right in their own backyard. Tell us how you want to experience the outdoors from Baker to Bellingham

We want to hear from you. DNR is working on a plan for state trust lands in the Whatcom County area that will guide recreation for the next 10 to 15 years. Fill out our survey before Aug. 31 to share how you want to experience the outdoors from Mount Baker to Bellingham. Also, mark you calendars for a public meeting on Nov. 29 in Whatcom County to check in on our recreation planning process. Learn more on our website. Statewide burn ban: Help firefighters out, don't spark any fires

During the last week, DNR firefighters have responded to 89 wildfire starts. Investigators believe all but three of those were likely started by humans. With hotter temperatures and windy weather expected this weekend, now is the time to continue to be extra cautious when working or playing outdoors. Use our tips, below, to help reduce your risk of starting a wildfire.

Beat the heat at a DNR
fishing lake

Cool off this summer with a trip to one of DNR's many fishing lakes. This time of year is a great time to enjoy bass fishing, especially when it comes along with camping, picnicking and sweeping scenic lakefront views. That's the case at DNR's Leader and Palmer lakes, located near Omak in our Loup Loup and Loomis state forests. Both are popular for largemouth and smallmouth bass fishing. For directions and amenities, visit our website. Click here for more fishing information from the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Help us celebrate the places you enjoy most by sharing your photos or videos with us

We recently launched a new form on our website that you can use to upload video and photos, like the one below. Big thanks to Grant Roush for sharing this photo from a sunset hike to Mailbox Peak
