Decorating my Make-A-Wish Christmas tree last week afforded me to unique chance to tour the designer homes on the Kings Chapel Parade of Homes before anyone else! There were plenty of design trends that I noticed throughout the beautiful homes.

Dramatic Ceilings
Many of the rooms in the homes featured amazing ceiling designs, like this tobacco stick mansard ceiling in the Gregg & Rains home.

Painted ceilings were also featured, with my favorite being this dark dining room ceiling.

This master bedroom ceiling is lined with white-washed barn wood, which helps balance out the femininity of this space.
Outdoor Lighting Indoors
Statement lighting was huge – in more ways than one. The hanging light fixtures were often the driving force of the rooms, and I also noticed a lot of over-sized outdoor light fixtures being used to great effect indoors.

An outdoor light fixture may come in the larger size you need and be perfectly appropriate in an unexpected application, like this nursery in the Arnold Homes, LLC home.

Texture on Walls
Throughout the home tour, I saw plenty of stuff going on on the walls besides paint, including board and batten walls like this guest room.

Other wall textures included seagrass wallpaper, barn wood, and interior brick. I think the brink is warm and stunning in this stairwell!

Quatrefoil Motif
Geometric patterns are still trending, but they seem to be calming down a bit. Patterns that stand the test of time are interpretations of classics like the quatrefoil motif I noticed in several places, like the in headboard of this master bedroom.

Deer Decor
Depending on who and where you are, the deer decor throughout the Parade of Homes may evoke delight or dismay! Faux or naturally-shed antlers were everywhere, and the iconic deer head motif is a recurring theme.
Coral as an Accent Color
Although I also saw a lot of orange, I definitely noted a move in the coral direction as an accent color. It looks particularly happy in combination with blues of all shades, from spa blue to navy.

Pampered Pets
The lucky folks who purchase this home on the Kings Chapel Parade of Homes are going to love this very luxurious pet shower located in the main floor laundry room. Also a great spot to rinse off muddy feet and dirty little children . . .
The clever builder, Randy Arnold of Arnold Homes, LLC, integrated a special away room for pets in the wainscotting of the great room.

I’m fascinated by the board and batten walls — and they’re a dark color! Could this mean I won’t have to paint the “judge’s paneling” in my living room in order to sell my house? (I’m hoping)

I have the very same deer head wall art that’s hanging in the dramatic office with the textured walls! I call him Frank. I tried to install him in my bedroom, but my husband didn’t like him there. Isn’t that weird? And he’s a hunter and from Wyoming, too. That’s ok — Frank looks good in the entryway. I fell in love with Frank in a strange way. I was flipping through a bunch of wall art when I came across him, and I thought NO WAY and walked off. But after a few steps, I stopped, turned, and realized with astonishment that he was perfect!

Like the drama of the custom faux finished wall by Bella Tucker. Then, I realized I once owned a very old house in New Orleans, that sort of had that look, naturally……LOL

I love your post! Touring our local “parade of homes” is one of my favorite pastimes. I am very happy to see that my peachy-coral upstairs hallway now might be going in the “right direction” after all. I painted it two or three years ago and chose a color that reminded me of “peach sorbet on a sunny summer day” because I thought it would make me happy every morning when I left my bedroom to go downstairs… and it does! I live in the Pacific Northwest where we don’t get many sunny days. At the time, I just couldn’t wrap my mind around a neutral gray or beige, and figured oh heck, if I ever want to sell my house, I can always repaint it. I am so glad I followed my heart and went with my “cheery” color. I smile every time I walk through that hallway.

I can’t wait to go see these houses! I am a huge fan of quatrefoils and try to work them into every room. Meanwhile, Zan likes to think we started the deer trend, with your help of course!

I love the dark ceiling in the dining room. It would make it very romantic at night in the glow of the lovely chandelier and candles. Board and batten adds another dimension to a room. I particularly like it in dinning rooms. I’m thinking about adding it to my master suite.
