Pubcon’s introductory SEO fundamentals workshop and training track will feature Carolyn Shelby, director of SEO and SEM at Tribune Company, industry veteran Michael Gray, presidentPubconLV2011-20-200×150 at Atlas Web Service, and Scott Polk, chief executive at MarketingNomads.com, Inc. (formerly ObsidianEdge), all dedicated to helping those new to the world of SEO quickly gain insight into successful planning and strategy.

You’ll learn about each of the three main components of a search engine, including the spider that downloads website content, the indexing system that categorizes and stores information, and the retrieval and ranking system that presents results as SERPs (Search Engine Results Pages, a term coined by Pubcon founder and chief executive Brett Tabke). You’ll learn why you want rankings and the criteria used for rankings “on your page.” Join us and quickly dive into how search engines work, what good site architecture is, and examine the design properties that affect search engine spiders along with how to make the best of search engine traffic.

Take a look at link building including what exactly it is, why you need it, and its primary variations, and in a step-by-step process. Then learn social media citations, how socialPubconLV2011wrapup01 media influences search results, and how and where to use it to influence those results.

You’ll also look closely at three additional major aspects of SEO, including agencies and why, when, and how to use them. Get introduced to helpful SEO community resources including trustworthy sites for gathering valuable information, and learn about a variety of tools and online services for analyzing your website. Additionally you’ll find out about search engine relationships, including how search engines view SEO and how to stay within their guidelines, plus how to take advantage of conferences and other resources to keep building your new SEO knowledge.
