On September 2nd it was reported that two major Google search algorithm updates were taking place.
Google Core algorithm update
The core algorithm update effects the natural, organic rankings on Google. I can confirm some significant changes in some SERPS that I watch, particularly with new listings coming out of nowhere on to page one.
Some had guessed that the update had to do with the Penguin Algorithm, but a spokesman from Google denied that. Penguin penalizes sites for spammy linking, and has not been updated since October 17, 2014. Sites that have since cleaned up their act have been waiting a long time for Penguin to update and their penalty to be lifted.
Local Update
This update affects the “Map Pack” and again I can confirm some changes, with some listings that have been pretty static for a long time dropping out or changing position, and with new listings joining the map pack for the first time.
