Fly2help Aim High Scholarships

Fly2help will run its successful Aim High programme at Gloucestershire Airport again this October.

Aim High is a free to join educational programme that helps young people learn about the world of aviation, gain knowledge of the breadth of career paths available to them and boost their confidence and belief in themselves. The scholarship is open to students aged 14-18 through an online application and subsequent interview process. 10 successful candidates are then awarded a place on the programme.

During the week at Gloucestershire Airport, scholars will spend time in Air Traffic Control, visit aviation companies on the airfield and receive presentations from aviation experts. Other planned visits include a day trip to RAF Brize Norton and site visits to Airbus and Rolls-Royce at Filton. These trips will enable the students to acquire vital skills such as personal presentation, teamwork and aviation knowledge.

Each student is also given the opportunity to have a trial flight lesson whilst on the week (weather permitting!) This is designed to give the scholars a taste of flight, boosting their self-esteem and putting their knowledge into practice.

Students can apply for the scholarship via the fly2help website. The deadline for applications is Thursday 15th September and interviews for the Gloucestershire Airport programme will take place on Saturday 24th September 2016.

Alison Pavier, Chief Executive of fly2help said:

"The aviation industry is a thrilling place to make your career in. During the Aim High week, scholars will see that it is characterised by team work and respect for everyone's contribution, so our aim is to show them the wide range of opportunities to be part of it. During the week, these students will grow in confidence and those who took part in our earliest scholarship programmes are now coming back to tell us about their careers in commercial airlines, the RAF and aviation companies."
