really liked it

What A Girl Wants is a delightful romp of a book with witty dialogue, a feisty and resilient heroine, and a mouthwateringly hunky hero. There is an exotic setting, and since Maddie, the heroine, is a travel writer, you get an even deeper dive into the exciting locale.

With an interesting twist on the “friends to lovers” trope, Selena Robins doesn’t just offer up a light-hearted romantic comedy, although it is definitely that, but the story takes a twist into a bit more serious material. Maddie is a bouncy, sassy sort, but she has heartache in her background that shows us why she has such inner strength and resilience. (She can also eat like an Olympic soccer player, although her tastes lean more to chocolate and ice cream. I want to know her secret!) Alex is just my kind of hero, the steady, serious sort who starts out wanting to maintain their friendship with no risks and ends up admitting his best friend is also the fulfillment of his wildest imaginings. (And he has a lop-sided grin!)

The book is full of great quips and quotes, but here are a few of my favorites:
“The cherry left her fingers and landed on her tongue. “Mmmm.” She stopped moaning. Her glazed eyes widened, and she stared at him with a horrified expression. Gasping, she flung her hands to her neck and wrapped them around her throat. He erupted off his chair. “Maddie?” Hauling her to her feet, he did what any man would have done under the circumstances. He popped her cherry.”

“I have a bucket of water with her name on it. She’d melt in a nanosecond.”

“When I find myself in a funk about this or anything else, I allow myself to wallow for a short time.” She smiled. “My good friends Ben and Jerry and Godiva are extremely supportive during this stage.”
(See what I mean about the ice cream and chocolate?)

Did I mention the sex? Well, let’s just say I don’t know how these two managed to ignore the chemistry for so long!

An enjoyable and fun contemporary romance with a twist and a lot of humor and heart!
