Kanye West has been given four whole minutes at the VMAs to do whatever he bloody well pleases.

According to TMZ and Pitchfork, the rapper will be given free rein on the stage for the allotted amount of time, and oh God this could be a nightmare or absolutely fantastic.

So what will Yeezy treat us to?

A renewed presidential bid? Fashion launch? Crane shenanigans? Rubbish Kanye robot dance?

We'll probably never guess correctly, to be fair. But judging from Kanye's past track record, it's going to be something typically bombastic.

There was 2009, when he infamously interrupted his sworn frenemy Taylor Swift as she accepted her Best Female Video award (and if you need an update on all the twists and turns of their feud, we can help you out there).

Then there was the announcement that he would run for president of the USA in 2020 at last year's show – an idea he recently said he's still keen on – and his bleeping brilliant performance at the Brit Awards a couple of years ago.

(So bleeping brilliant that viewers at home didn't get much beyond the words 'all' and 'day'.)

Basically, brace yourselves for whatever Ye has in store – and how liberally he decides to interpret that four-minute time allotment.

The MTV VMAs are happening this Sunday, August 28, with performers including Ariana Grande and Nicki MinajBritney Spears and G-Eazy, Nick Jonas, Ty Dolla $ign, Future and Rihanna.

The show will also see Rihanna receive one of the night's biggest honours in the form of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award – the same prize Kanye won last year.
