Going Green by Going Blue

This summer, Bear Mountain State Park is stepping up its efforts to be green by going blue. The Blue Bag Program is a pilot volunteer program to make recycling more convenient for park visitors. New recycling stations will help reduce the amount of waste going to landfills, and will also hopefully cut down on litter in the park.

The Hudson Valley park is introducing the new recycling system this summer, and needs volunteers to help spread the word. Volunteers will greet incoming park-goers, inform them about the Blue Bag Program, and provide the recycling bags. Pamphlets are available to show visitors where the stations are located to dispose of recyclable waste.

The volunteers are needed for full- and half-day shifts throughout the summer season. The pilot program is an excellent way to give back to Bear Mountain State Park, which has provided a wide variety of outdoor recreation – such as hiking, fishing, and winter activities – for over 100 years.
