Midland Lead sponsors lead sculptor

Midland Lead sponsors lead sculptor Jamie Limond

When you think of lead you think of roofing, or radiation protection or maybe sound proofing. However lead’s uses don’t end there. For years lead has been the choice of many artists and sculptors for some amazing pieces of art.

Recently, Midland lead has sponsored Jamie Limond on a sculpture he has been working on for a hospice in Ipswich. We donated some of our materials for him to create his sculpture called The Unmarked Pages. Jamie chose to work with lead sheet for his sculpture, because it can be worked into almost any shape. Lead is a soft and very malleable metal, which makes it ideal for bending and shaping.

The Hospice – St Elizabeth’s – specialises in caring for people living with life-limiting diseases. Jamie created this sculpture to be put on show in the reception area of the hospice. This sculpture – a lead book – was inspired by the art of Averil Green and the poetry of Ivy Jones. The book represents binary opposites and how they depend on each other to coexist. Sad and happy, sick and healthy; without the opposite they wouldn’t exist. The words on the sculpture are an extract from the making of the The Miracle of the Roses. The Miracle of the Roses limited edition woodcuts are on sale and all money is going to charity. This amazing sculpture just shows how many different uses lead can have! Would you like to see more of this sculpture or other versatile uses of lead – see our NEW pinterest page…
