It was Great Britain's flag that rode high after the 2016 edition of the Tour de France, cycling's most prestigious race, ended on Monday. Christopher Froome, born in Kenya but representing Great Britain, achieved some measure of history, winning his third Tour de France title and becoming the first man since 1995 to win two consecutive titles.

But, of course, the Tour de France isn't just about who wins the race and wears the yellow jersey. Joining Froome on the podium were the other winners. The green jersey went to Slovakia's Peter Sagan, who topped the Tour's Points Classification, while his team-mate Rafal Majka wore the spotted jersey by winning the Mountains Classification. Britain had another person on the podium, with Adam Yates wearing the white jersey for the Best Young Rider competition.

Now, the Tour de France isn't just another race. It's an entry into some of the picturesque locations that France possess. Cyclists ride over 3,500 km, covering a variety of beautiful locations, and here are some of the most beautiful sights from that race.
