Vigil scheduled for murdered transgender nurse

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A vigil has been scheduled for a Hattiesburg woman who was found murdered in a Coast hotel Saturday night. 

Dee Whigham, 25, was found stabbed to death at a hotel, according to the Jackson County sheriff.

Family said Whigham identified as a woman but hadn't undergone any kind of gender reassignment surgery.

Whigham was an RN at Forrest General Hospital. 

The Spectrum Center will hold a candlelight vigil for Whigham Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at The Spectrum Center.

According to investigators, authorities are looking for a "person of interest" pictured in surveillance video from the hotel.
