Go Beyond the Basics
If you’re using the same tired questions at every job interview, it may be time to mix it up a bit – and find out more than you ever thought possible about a potential applicant!
Add these to your job interview template:
- Why have you had x number of jobs in y number of years?
- Tell me about a recent project or problem that you made better, faster, smarter, more efficient, or less expensive.
- What are the top three things you are looking for in your next job?
- Have you ever had this experience?
- You worked hard on something, only to be told to change priorities and do it some other way. How did you handle that?
- Which supervisors have you found easiest to work with? Most difficult? Why?
- What questions do you have for me?
Essential Legal Questions
These three questions are essential:
- Are you able to perform all of the essential functions of this job, including the days and hours required, with or without an accommodation? (Show the candidate the job description.)
- How many absences did you have during the last two years at your last job (other than absences for PTO, medical leave, funeral leave, etc.)?
- Explain the __ month/year gap(s) in your employment history.
