How To Land a Job in a LinkedIn World

If you are a candidate looking to change jobs this year, the ways companies recruit today have been completely transformed from the last time you were on the market. Tools such as LinkedIn, people aggregators and social referral schemes mean that more and more prime job opportunities are being filled through direct approaches to candidates.

But this is all happening behind the scenes and most candidates I come into contact with have only the sketchiest understanding of how they need to adapt. That's why I set about recording a briefing to share here on LinkedIn that'll give you the insider's view of today's jobs market... how recruiters are really filling their job openings today.

I'm Tony Restell and I'm the Founder of Social-Hire.com. We work with recruiters to help them figure out how to make hires via social channels. That gives us unique insights into how companies are going about making their hires today - and how much things have evolved in just a few years.

If you think about the last time you changed jobs, a combination of applying via job boards / working your network / engaging with recruitment businesses would have had your market covered pretty comprehensively. But today, a sizeable proportion of all roles are being filled without the roles ever being openly advertised. Many are being filled via direct candidate approaches using LinkedIn or People Aggregators. Others are being filled via automated social referral programmes that hunt for candidate matches amongst a company's existing employee networks.

Trust me, you almost certainly haven't taken all the steps you need to have taken to address this shift!

That's where this presentation will help. It'll help you understand the transformation there's been in the ways that companies are filling their vacancies. It'll shine a light on the changes you need to make to stand out as an ideal candidate match for those positions which are simply never advertised. And it'll give you insights into how you can use social networking as an ongoing tool for furthering your career.

I genuinely hope these insights help - and if they do, please share them with your LinkedIn network so others aren't left in the dark. Your career and their careers are too important for that!

Thank you so much Mr. Restell. The session was absolutely brilliant. I learnt a lot yesterday and was quite shocked by some of the data & facts that you shared with us.

My team participated in a webinar by Tony and Social Hire, and took away from great data about how the hiring landscape is changing. If you are an individual looking for a new job, a company seeking talent, or an agency trying to match supply with demand - there is some great information in here that I highly recommend.
