I love the look of wooden utensils, especially for summer entertaining, but I like to take them up a notch and add a customized touch and a pop of color! These dip dyed wooden utensils are perfect for a party, can be made quickly, and dry quite quickly as well so you’ll be ready to party in style at your next summer bash!
To make dip dyed wooden utensils, you’ll need wooden utensils, rit dye in the colors of your choice, and cups or bowls to hold the dye.
Get the supplies easily and have them delivered straight to your doorstep by clicking the links below.
I don’t have any specific science for mixing the dye. Add a small amount of liquid dye {about one tablespoon} to each plastic cup then fill to the desired height with water. The height of the dye solution determines how high the color will go on the cutlery when you dip it to the bottom.
Dip the wooden utensil straight up and down into the dye solution and let it sit as long as you want to get the depth of color you desire. If the color isn’t as strong as you’d like, add more liquid dye to the cup and stir then dip again.
Let the utensils dry completely. I like to set them on top of a bowl with the dyed area hanging over so air can circulate over and under.
It’s as simple as that. Dip wooden utensils or serving pieces and add some color to your summer entertaining.
While you probably have to order the smaller utensils online, you may be able to find larger wooden serving pieces at your local dollar store.
When buying utensils or serving pieces, just remember that lighter wood will show the color more vividly.
Simple, right? I love the way they look!
