Print Your Cake And Eat It Too: 3D Printed Pop-Up Restaurant Opens In London

This article is more than 7 years old.

If you're in London on July 25, 26 or 27, you may have the opportunity to enjoy a nine-course 3D printed dinner, complete with 3D printed utensils and furniture.

Food Ink, which dubs itself "The world's first 3D-printed restaurant" is set to showcase itself in London following its pop-up appearance in the Netherlands. The London appearance marks the beginning of the company's world tour which includes appearances in Berlin, Dubai, Seoul, Rome, NYC, Tokyo and many more cities throughout 2016.

To celebrate the launch, Food Ink is hosting an exclusive 10-person dinner, although during the daytime the pop-up plans to be open for the public to come and see the printing firsthand and even sample some 3D printed snacks.

The food is created through byFlow, makers of a portable multi-material 3D-printer, and prepared by chefs Joel Castanye and Mateu Blanch; dinners guests will be able to see real-time 3D-printing of their meal, but the event will also be live-streamed to the public. Chef Castanye runs the La Boscana restaurant in Spain and worked previously at legendary Michelin 3-star elBulli. The tables, chairs and lamps are all 3D-printed too, created by Arthur Mamou-Mani while Polish artist Iwona Lisiecka designed the 3D-printed utensils.

The event also promises, "virtual reality headsets paired with appetizers, wall-to-wall visual projections and AI-composed music altogether provide an immersive and thrilling glimpse of the future."

The pop-up is going to be held at 8 Dray Walk, London and tickets for dinner go on sale (for £250.00 each, plus a £13.49 fee) Friday, July 15 at 9 A.M.
