RSP Boiler Room No.37: RB Royce Freeman, Oregon

Royce Freeman

The 6’0″, 230-pound Freeman has the size, pad level, and footwork to hang on Sundays. Find out what he needs to learn in order to thrive.

The ability to shorten one’s stride is a big part of setting up blocking schemes. Freeman has this skill but find out what he’s missing that he’ll need to acquire for Sunday football.

Two things that I didn’t mention in this video are Freeman’s hands and pass blocking. Both are promising. I particularly like that Freeman isn’t an easy-out for blitzing defenders as a stand-up blocker. He can deliver a pop when he hits an opponent entering the pocket but he has to refine his strike.

There’s more for me to study. At this point, I don’t see greatness for Freeman in the NFL but the opportunity to have a productive and lucrative career is there for him to work toward.
