Call it The Big Grape.
New York City topped OpenTable’s latest list: the 100 Best Restaurants for Wine Lovers. The city’s 12 honorees—which include heralded institutions such as Gotham Bar and Grill, Balthazar, Del Posto, and Gramercy Tavern—have long held reputations for their superb wine lists.
Coming in second place is California, which boasts 10 restaurants—four of which are in Yountville in Napa County. Nevada and Texas each have eight honorees.
Other than New York, several other cities that claimed all the honors for their respective states, including: Las Vegas, New Orleans, Portland, Boston, and Chicago.
Beyond the top four states, 21 others are represented on the list, in addition to the District of Columbia (which has three restaurants): Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Washington.
“Whether you’re a wine aficionado or a novice looking to expand your palate, this year’s list showcases a variety of restaurants that carefully curate the finest wine selections to complement their menus,” Caroline Potter, chief dining officer at OpenTable, said in a statement. “From deep dives with sommeliers to approachable tastings to find the perfect pairing for any meal, these winning restaurants have earned rave reviews for their stellar dining experiences and impressive wine offerings.”
This year’s roster is the first time OpenTable released such a list since its 2014 Diner’s Choice. But know that not much has changed, save for the restaurants mentioned then and now.
Everything is still diner’s choice—as is OpenTable’s democratic way. The list was culled from more than 12 million verified reviews that span in excess of 28,000 restaurants in all 50 states and Washington D.C.
