DIY Painted Glass Bowls

Sharing is caring!

Some months ago, I shared with you a beautiful seder plate made with DIY painted glass bowls. I decided to make a couple for year-round use as trinket bowls and a place to drop the keys. These are quite cool, and easy to make using a simple process and inexpensive materials.

I am of the mentality that if you have a place to “dump” things, your house stays neater. Having a dedicated area to drop the loose change, floating safety pins, and other random junk that tends to show up means you’ll actually put them there when you bump into them. Once a week, you can clean it out and start fresh.

These DIY painted bowls are perfect for that!

When I was making my Seder plate, I realized that filling in a simple puffy paint outline with nail polish allows me to create beautiful and amazing art. It works in the reverse, so the nail polish doesn’t need to be neat. You create an outline and let the nail polish pool inside.

Since it’s made from nail polish and puffy paint, it’s not very washable. You CAN use it for dips and such but you’ll need to wash the other side very carefully. You’re better off sticking to using it as a trinket bowl, key-catcher, or for wrapped candies. That way you only need to give it a quick occasional wipe for dust, and it lasts much longer.

  1. Love this, but I’m looking to do something larger and a bit more dramatic, like I’d like to get a large glass bowl, maybe 18″ round and paint it on the outside, like you did the small ones. I had a beautiful one that was brick red and olive green and perfect for my living room in every way, but unfortunately, I caught it with the vacuum cord and broke it. I can’t find any how-to videos or articles that show me how to do this. Maybe I’m Googling the wrong term. When I say “painting glass bowls” I get fish bowls and such with pictures on them, not what I want.
