7 Reasons to Trim Your Home in White
White trim is multifunctional, and it can do amazing things
Trim makes an appearance in just about every room we walk into. Sometimes it stands out and catches our attention right away. Other times it seems to fade into the background and we hardly notice it. Whether it’s impressive and fancy or run-of-the-mill ordinary, every variety of trim and molding gives a room that finished look.
White trim in particular is timeless, and it provides a clean, chic appearance that always looks new and fresh. If you’ve ever had the white trim touched up in your home, you know how it can renew an entire space. Trim is also super functional in ways you may not realize. Here are some of the amazing things you can do by using white trim.

2. Accentuate the positive. The use of ornate trim can bring out those awesome features in a room, and it can even create some awesomeness where there was none.
For a truly amazing arch, embellish it with dentil molding or other decorative trim. You can also take an ordinary doorway to the next level by installing door casing and a stately pediment. When this type of traditional molding is used alongside a darker wall color, the trim’s details will really stand out.

3. Create serenity. For a completely seamless look, use the same white paint color for your trim, walls and built-in units. Your room will feel serene and will look extra spacious. But don’t forget to add the fun. Bring in pops of color with accessories. To keep things simple and uniform, add accessories that are all in the same color family.

4. Tone down strong elements. With its distinctive grid pattern, a coffered ceiling handily becomes a focal point. Just remember that it should enhance a room, not overpower it.
By painting the beams white and using a soft, neutral hue on the ceiling and walls, you’ll create a subtle coffer design that will still command presence. To tie the look together, paint the rest of the trim in the room with the same white as the ceiling beams.

5. Provide historic flair. With summer on the way, it’s time to get the beach house in tip-top shape. If you have a vacation home that’s in need of an exterior paint job, you can’t go wrong with white trim — especially for cottage-style homes, because white trim provides an authentic, historic look. You can unify the house and yard by also painting the fence white. And for some personality, use an unexpected hue for the doors and outdoor accessories.

6. Magnify a room’s natural light. Transom windows are a bonus in any space. They allow more natural light to flow into a room and they can also extend a great outdoor view. Interior transoms are terrific because they create a more open feel to a home.
With all of these rewards, transom windows don’t need to stand out in order to be fabulous. Treat them as part of the entire window (or door) by using the same trim color all the way around. For a soft glow, try a warm off-white. This will also give a boost to the natural light as it streams through exterior windows.

7. Go for the glamour. When it comes to adding those finishing touches throughout the house, bathrooms often get overlooked because many homeowners think of the bathroom as a purely utilitarian space. But we use our bathrooms every day, so why not add a little style?
With the addition of crisp, white crown molding and trimmed-out mirrors, you and your bathroom will feel glamorous. Tie it all together with white cabinets and subway tile for a timeless look.
