With the excessive heat warning extended until Saturday, the need to stay hydrated, especially for those living on the streets, is crucial.

Friday, the Open Door Mission and radio station KAT 103.7 collected more than 15,000 bottles of water and more than $500 in donations in less then three hours.

The water is for the mission's Street Outreach Program, for the homeless who don't have access to clean water. "Many of them are struggling to find access to clean bottled water," said the mission's President and CEO Candace Gregory. "We've seen the trauma from being out in the heat, the dehydration and sunburn, all of those things, but then when you add in the mixture of drinking the unclean water, there is even more complications in our clinic for that."

This comes at a time of great need as Thursday the mission estimates they distributed more than 4,000 bottles of water.
