Micro Markets Serve Police Officers, Nurses, and More!

There are many people that work outside of normal business hours. Many police officers, nurses, and other professionals work late into the wee hours of the night or early morning. When working these hours, it is not only difficult to fight your internal clock, it is hard to find healthy food to eat during these times of the night.

Eating Can Help You Stay Awake

It is no surprise that eating is a way to keep you awake. In an article published on WebMD titled “How to Stay Awake Naturally,” author Camille Peri states that foods can give you an energy boost which can help you stay awake. However, not all foods are created equal. Peri states, “Sugary snacks give you a quick energy boost followed by the sugar “lows,” when low blood sugar produces mental fogginess and lethargy.”

Finding Healthy Food During Night Shifts is Hard

The WebMD article stated: We recently interviewed a Master Officer about his eating habits on the night shifts. He stated that in his experience, it isn’t uncommon for a new police officer, recently graduated from the academy, to gain at least 10 to 15 pounds in their first year on the job. “I learned pretty quickly that I needed to bring my own food and plan ahead to avoid weight gain. Finding healthy food during the night shift is surprisingly hard! While most of the guys I work with stop at McDonald’s or Burger King for something quick to eat while patrolling, I pack cashews, bananas or any kind of fruit, and yogurt to snack on during the late night shifts, when nothing else is open other than fast food joints.”

As police officers work late nights and hard hours, so do other experts like doctors, nurses, emergency help, service professionals and more. This one example likely speaks on behalf of the many people that struggle to find healthy food options during their work hours.

Healthy Food Options at Any Time of the Day

Micro Markets are becoming more and more popular. Offering a variety of healthy food options, like salads, fresh sandwiches, juices, soups, and more, we have the ability to bridge the gap to make healthy foods more accessible to professionals who work outside of normal business hours.

What Are Micro Markets?

Micro Markets is mini stores that do not need a person to supervise or be there to check people out at the register. Instead, it is completely self service, consisting of refrigerated and non-refrigerated shelves that hold all sorts of products. Then, like your local grocery store self-checkout (but easier to use and far less problems), you can use the kiosk to pay for your products. Currently, there are pressure sensitive shelves that can tell when products are removed.
