In late April, Financial Technologies Forum (FTF) announced the winners of the 2016 FTF News Technology Innovation Awards, and held a gala event on May 17. Among the top vote-getters in the competitive awards process was post-trade solutions and services vendor SmartStream, and in particular Philippe Chambadal, president of SmartStream.
Chambadal, who is also the CEO of the SmartStream Reference Data Utility (RDU), was voted Fintech Person of the Year. (In May, SmartStream named Haytham Kaddoura to be CEO while Chambadal stepped away from the CEO position to take on the role of president.)
Overall, SmartStream won Best New Post-Trade Solution for the Buy Side for SmartStream’s Centre of Excellence offering, along with the Service Provider of the Year honor.
Chambadal attributes the strong showing in the awards race to the vendor staying on the forefront of the regulatory space and offering clients innovations such as the utility approach to post-trade services that mutualize costs for end-users. This approach also helps end-user firms improve their balance sheets and realize new efficiencies, he says.
In the video recorded during the awards ceremony, Chambadal discusses what he thinks is the firm’s biggest achievement for 2015 and where the provider is headed.
