European property price league table: London is most expensive of 24 nation's capitals in Euro 2016 - but at a tenth of the price, which is cheapest?
- London property costs £4,922 per square metre - more than any other capital competing in Euro 2016
- Ankara is cheapest at less than a tenth of that
- Belfast figures surprisingly lowly at 17th cheapest out of the 24
- Cardiff is the lowest-priced capital of western European nations in the Euros
England's football team might rank 11th in FIFA rankings - but going into the Euro 2016 championships its capital is firmly bottom of a league of cheapest European property prices.
At £4,922 per square metre, the price of London's homes is more than ten times that of the cheapest capital - Turkey's Ankara where property is £451 per square metre.
Paris, Bern and Stockholm make up the four highest-priced capitals among nations competing in Euro 2016 - after which there is a steep drop-off to Rome with a price of £3,186 per square metre, according to the figures from Housesimple.com (see table below).
First and last: ranked by the cheapness of their property, Ankara comes top of the Euro 2016 league, while London is last with the most expensive prices per square metre.
Belfast figures surprisingly lowly at 17th cheapest out of the 24, only slightly less expensive than Dublin at 18th.
Oslo and Copenhagen would doubtless have featured in the top ten most expensive capitals - had their teams qualified for the competition.
Reykjavik comes mid-table, with slightly cheaper property than the most expensive of the former Eastern Bloc capitals, Zagreb, where the average value is 1,704 per square metre.
Four former Eastern Bloc capitals come after Ankara as next cheapest, with Cardiff following as the lowest-priced capital of western European nations in the Euros, and Lisbon a close second.
Warsaw, Bratislava, Prague and Moscow are all more expensive than the Portuguese and Welsh capitals.
