About this campaign

Diamonds in The Ruff Animal Rescue’s selflessness and compassion for cats and dogs brings hope to the homeless animal community. They rescue the elderly, mistreated and rejected; without discrimination, which is one of the many reasons why Zen Pet Supplies is happy and honored to sponsor and help spread awareness for DITR. Please assist us in showing love and support for the incredible Diamonds in The Ruff animal rescue. Make a contribution to DITR by donating a toy to keep Kella Hope busy while she heals, or purchasing a marvelous tee-shirt from Zen Pet Supplies. 100% of the proceeds will be given to this remarkable rescue.

Kella HopepngHere is a story about the heroes of the western New York animal community. Diamonds in the Ruff (DITR) animal rescue’s motto“Leave no anmal behind,” really hits home with Zen Pet Supplies. Their mission is to protect the welfare of animals, one life at a time, from unnecessary euthanasia. No matter the physical or psychological condition, DITR is first to foster, transport, provide veterinary care and rehabilitation to those in need.

Established in 2011, this beautiful 501c3’s goal is to help the abandoned, homeless, and neglected. Diamonds in The Ruff has rescued over 600 dogs and cats since they were founded. They don’t shy away from extreme circumstances and take in many of the undesirable cases that most rescues won’t touch, as well as animals at high risk for immediate euthanasia upon entering the shelter. DITR’s large foster network is crucially important as they don’t have a shelter to house all the animals they rescue. However, they have partnered with a couple shelters who take in dogs and cats for them until a new foster home opens up. Several of the volunteers help with basic training along with providing a zen environment to lay their head while they await their forever family.

One of Diamonds in The Ruff’s current rescue stories begins with a good samaritan driving down Mt. Hope Road on the Tuscarora Indian Reservation. She was met with the eyes of an abandoned pup on the side of the road. Not knowing what to do and not wanting to leave the dog alone, she turned her car around to assess the situation. The good samaritan had reached out to DITR via Facebook asking for their help. The pup was then turned over to the Lewiston Police department, where the president of Diamonds in The Ruff was able to track down the dog’s whereabouts.

Randolph, DITR foster coordinator, located the dog at the Village Vet in Lewiston. Unfortunately, they learned that the dogs owners not only abandoned her, but she had been hit by a car. The vet feels she is hound mix and about 2 years old. “I break down a lot when I think about this, because I am shattered that somebody would just dump their dog on the side of a road and not really [care] if she’s going to make it into a home or make it out alive, even,” said Randolph.

They stepped up and provided her the necessary medical attention and love she had been stripped of. Her X-rays had revealed her hip was fractured in two places, her lung cavity was filled with air and severely bruised. Diamonds in The Ruff, transported her to the Orchard Park Veterinary Hospital where she was treated for pain management until the doctors could do the surgery to repair her fractured hip. She quickly got the name Kella Hope. Kella means warrior in Irish and Hope due to the fact she was discovered on Mt. Hope Road.

This amazing rescue took on the cost of Kella’s medical expenses, exceeding well over $6k. This didn’t include therapy and future vet visits, “Knowing her pricey vetting didn’t shy us away from stepping up,” said DITR Volunteer Kate Glaser. “I’m so proud to volunteer with DITR, because they step in when the unimaginable happens and don’t back down from challenges.” Kella has recently settled into a loving supportive foster home where she is healing and recovering. The vet ordered that she be restricted to rest in a create for six to eight weeks, to allow for a successful recovery. “Kella Hope is stable and she will survive, but she has such a long road ahead of her,” remarked Randolph.
