Diepsloot pupils build better futures through an educational programme

DIEPSLOOT - Grade 11 and 12 pupils from Diepsloot are given an opportunity to make a better future.

Grade 11 and 12 pupils from Diepsloot are set to benefit from an educational programme which offers extra classes in mathematics, science, accounting and English.

This is all thanks to Sage Foundation, in partnership with Afrika Tikkun, which has launched the Sage Foundation Saturday School in Diepsloot.

Head of development, marketing and communications for Afrika Tikkun, Onyi Nwaneri said, “Living in an impoverished area with a high youth unemployment rate and a lack of child development programmes, young people in Diepsloot sometimes struggle to envision a better life for themselves. By partnering with companies such as Sage Foundation, we help to inspire them with a goal for a better tomorrow and support as they work towards a brighter future.”

Afrika Tikkun is a non-profit organisation which works towards a future where today’s children and youth are tomorrow’s productive citizens. The foundation launched the Saturday School by hosting a Career Readiness Market Day at Afrika Tikkun.

At the launch, Diepsloot pupils browsed a career expo which focused on nine job functions that exist in the foundation’s business. They also were given an opportunity to speak to the foundation’s volunteers in order to obtain ideas and inspiration for their future careers. The foundation lends itself to employee volunteering, as some of their volunteers are former teachers who have the knowledge to share with the pupils.

“We believe in a socially-responsible world and in playing a positive role in societies. Focusing on education is one way that we can make a real impact. We are open about how we give, not only financially, but through the participation of colleagues. It’s always a pleasure to see the team working with the children at Afrika Tikkun with the aim of empowering them to achieve their dreams,” the president of Sage International and chairman of Sage Foundation, Ivan Epstein said.
