STEPHANIE SEYMOUR has sought to clarify the comments that she made last week - including that the new guard of models should be known as "Bitches of the moment" - which promptly erupted into "supermodel-gate" following Kendall Jenner's response.

A supermodel is a supermodel. I respect and admire all these women in my industry

"I don't usually address rumours, but since feelings have been hurt I would like to set the story straight," Seymour began on her Instagram account, alongside an image of Kendall Jenner and Gigi Hadid, refuting that she had ever mentioned them in the first place. "At an event last week I was jokingly asked if the 'era of supermodels' was over, what should we call the new great 'it' girls?? There were no names mentioned, and NO ill intent involved. A supermodel is a supermodel. I respect and admire all these women in my industry, in particular Gigi Hadid and Kendall Jenner. Having been in the business over 20 years I know how hard these women work. Bravo to both Gigi and Kendall for their success!! @gigihadid @kendalljenner."

While Seymour's initial comments were reported in a light-hearted context (including "They are completely different than we were. Supermodels are sort of the thing of the past. They deserve their own title. Kendall and Gigi are beautiful girls, and I support all of them, but they need their own title"), Jenner took exception last week and took to her own online platform, revealing that she felt "disappointed" with Seymour.

The issue was kept in the headlines earlier this week, as Hadid's mother, Yolanda Foster, was reported as saying: "It's sad to see some of these beautiful semi-retired supermodels, who are mothers themselves now, feel the need to publicly put down someone else's daughter."

Now that she has clarified what she initially meant, Seymour no doubt hopes to bring to an end a week of back and forth.
