In a major initiative to get closer to people and provide hassle-free services, the Commerce Ministry on Thursday launched ‘Twitter Seva’.

Through ‘Twitter Seva’, queries of common citizens on matters relating to the Department of Commerce (DoC) and Department of Industrial Policy & Promotion (DIPP) will be answered, Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said.

Queries regarding manufacturing policy, industrial corridors, investment promotion, Make in India, Startup India, Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB), FDI, intellectual property rights, patents, trademarks, designs and copyrights will be answered through Twitter Seva. “Under this Seva, anyone who is desirous of assistance from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry can use the hashtag #mociseva. An institutionalised mechanism with a special twitter cell has been created in the ministry manned by a set of dedicated officers who will monitor and direct all the tweets to the concerned officers of the department,” Sitharaman said.

“All officers have been sensitised to respond to the tweets within a short time frame,” she said, adding that this is an initiative of the Minister of Commerce and Industry keeping in line the dictum ‘minimum government, maximum governance’, of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Officials in the ministry said that the ‘seva’ has been specially designed keeping in mind the startup companies and entrepreneurs, who do not have to run from pillar to post and get a one-stop shop for all information, queries and grievance redressal.

“This is another step forward in the government’s initiative of promoting ease of doing business,” he said.

“Twitter Seva will act as a hotline for entrepreneurs where the government will provide necessary help and means through the microblogging site Twitter,” the official said.
