Choosing Your Wedding Band: Here Are Some Things To Consider

By: Vanscoy Diamonds

A wedding band should be a symbol of your love and commitment, not just a fashion statement. How do you go about choosing the single most important item of jewelry? Here are some things to consider before making the final choice.

To match or not to match

When shopping for wedding bands, it’s important to decide whether or not you want the ring to match that of your partner. You may choose to have rings that match, complement each other or take different routes. While going for matching bands is the traditional (and more intimate) route, there is nothing wrong with expressing your individuality with non-matching rings.

Gold or Platinum: Color and Finish

Gold has been the choice of metal for centuries. However, the popularity of platinum has risen exponentially in the recent years. Most wedding bands come in gold or platinum. Both come in brushed as well as polished finish, with brushed being more understated and contemporary. As long as it looks good with your engagement ring, you may choose any metal that you fancy. While choosing metals, keep an eye out for any skin allergies that you might have. Color can be one of the deciding factors in choosing the right wedding band. Go for yellow gold in case you’re going for a traditional look. For a more modern look, look into white and rose gold colors for the bride and black titanium for the groom, if you’re feeling experimental.

Design and Setting

Stones can be set on a band in channel or pavé settings. Are your tastes more contemporary or traditional? Pay attention to the style of clothes you wear and the kind of art you’re interested in. They can be good pointers toward the kind of setting and design you would like in your jewelry.

Cultural influences

Different cultures have different customs and traditions. We encourage inclusion of cultural elements in your wedding jewelry. Russian wedding rings, for instance, consist of three interlocking bands of different colors – pink for love, yellow for fidelity and white for friendship. The Irish have Claddagh rings that have two hands (symbolizing friendship) clasping a heart (symbolizing love) with a crown on top (symbolizing eternity). Embracing the traditions of your culture makes your wedding ring that more special, interesting and intimate. Choose your own wedding band at Van Scoy Diamonds
