Drink driving isn’t okay – even if you’re on a boat.

Emergency services had to launch a major rescue effort after a teenager ‘borrowed’ a motorboat while intoxicated, lost control and ran it onto rocks.

He tried to flee the wreck of the boat but was injured and had to be airlifted to hospital.

The unnamed 19-year-old was lucky as police on patrol saw him driving it erratically while leaving the harbour on the Isles of Scilly in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Earlier in the day it got stuck at this point for 30 minutes with people trapped. Riders were heard screaming and shouting for help after they got stuck upside down for half an hour on a new Alton Towers roller coaster today (Mon). Twenty eight people were left hanging upside down after Air Galactica ground to a halt at the top of the first loop at around 2pm. A member of staff had to climb up to comfort them and calm them down after the rollercoaster, which opened in March, broke down during a heavy rain shower. Staff eventually managed to re-start the rollercoaster and bring the riders back down to the ground. Officials at Alton Towers told visitors the ride had been "flooded" and it is now closed. Riders stuck dangling on Alton Towers roller coaster ‘A local man in his late teens was found by Coastguard, injured and cold at the top of the tide line under a bush in the dark, having dragged himself from the water.

‘He was airlifted to Truro hospital where I am glad to report he has now been discharged.

‘Drinking and driving private pleasure boats is not unlawful although unarguably it is an extraordinarily risky pursuit. The sea takes no prisoners.’
