Chef John Tesar’s return to the burger world is official. Nearly four years after the closure of Commissary, the Arts District spot that first showcased Tesar’s skills on the flat-top griddle, he’s back with an entirely different approach. The Royale, a swanky, whimsical take on Dallas’ favorite dish, has officially opened its doors in Plano.

According to Tesar, the restaurant opened quietly over the past few days. "This is not your typical burger and fries joint," he said. "I always incorporate flavors from around the world to give guests a culinary experience that they won’t get anywhere else." Judging by the crab, lobster, and veggie burger offerings, that isn’t much of an overestimation.

For the "first couple of weeks," The Royale will only be open for dinner, but plans to add lunch service are in the works. In the meantime, you can check out The Royale’s "DJ booth-style" craft milkshake station and crazy interesting burgers during the dinner hours.

At present, The Royale opens for dinner at 4 p.m. and closes at 11 p.m. Get thee to to the 'burbs, burger enthusiasts.
