Raiders to remain in Oakland for now, hope to find long-term solution

The Raiders will remain in Oakland for at least one more season, and possibly more.

The Raiders won two of their three Super Bowl trophies in Oakland.

On Thursday, the team agreed to a one-year lease that will keep it in antiquated O.Co Coliseum for the 2016 season. The arrangement includes an additional two years of team options following the 2016 season.

The Raiders also announced they had retained consultant Larry MacNeil, who spearheaded the San Francisco 49ers' efforts to build Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. He will now help the Raiders explore and assess options to build a new facility in the Oakland market.

Raiders owner Mark Davis: Las Vegas is 'absolutely an NFL city'

The Silver and Black previously collaborated with the San Diego Chargers in an attempt to jointly build a stadium in the Los Angeles suburbs, but their bid was rebuffed in favor of the project headed by Rams owner Stan Kroenke in Inglewood, Calif. The Raiders could potentially still become co-tenants with Kroenke's Rams if the Chargers waive their option to relocate to L.A. in order to remain in San Diego.

The Raiders' efforts to find a viable stadium project in Oakland have thus far proven unfruitful. Owner Mark Davis has flirted with San Antonio and Las Vegas as he considers other potential landing spots for the franchise. He rejected the option to play at Levi's Stadium with the 49ers.
