SeeedStudio has informed Softpedia about the availability of a new single-board computer (SBC) called SeeedStudio BeagleBone Green Wireless, the first BeagleBone board with built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE).

SeeedStudio comes today as an upgrade to the previous model, SeeedStudio BeagleBone Green, featuring a built-in 2.4 GHz Wireless module(2x2 MIMO Wi-Fi and Bluetooth), as an alternative to the popular Raspberry Pi 3 single-board computer from the Raspberry Pi Foundation.

Thanks to the new Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.1 Low Energy (LE) technologies built directly into the board, BeagleBone Green Wireless will be a more than perfect development board that offers Internet of Things enthusiasts a complete hardware solution for wearable and IoT prototypes.

"Take Home Control Gateway for example, it can be used as the remote of a wide range of TVs, media devices and more - you connect with it over Bluetooth to control everything from your phone," say the SeeedStudio engineers. "SeeedStudio BeagleBone Green Wireless is a second product in partnership between Seeed and BeagleBoard.org."

Technical specifications of SeeedStudio BeagleBone Green Wireless

Our tech-savvy readers will be more than happy to learn that the new SeeedStudio BeagleBone Green Wireless board comes with a built-in 2.4 GHz TI WiLinkTM8 module with two antenna solutions to provide Wi-Fi support, which features AP (Access Point) and STA (Station) mode of communication, which is very useful in wireless LAN networking.

As such, developers will be able to develop their projects immediately after connecting Wi-Fi to their devices, without the need to install any drivers. On the other hand, SeeedStudio tells us that the Bluetooth implementation complies with the Bluetooth Advanced Audio Distribution Profile (A2DP) standard for audio control in automation projects, supporting stereo-quality audio transmission.

The board is powered by an AM3358 1GHz ARM Cortex-A8 processor, 512MB DDR3 RAM, 4GB 8-bit eMMC on-board flash storage, 3D graphics accelerator, NEON floating-point accelerator, two PRU 32-bit microcontrollers, four USB 2.0 ports, as well as two 46 pin headers.

Last but not least, developers will be able to install the Node-RED tool for wiring together hardware IoT (Internet of Things) devices on the new SeeedStudio BeagleBone Green Wireless single-board computer. At the same time, they will  be able to program with more Grove modules, thanks to the board's integration with the MRAA low level skeleton library for I/O communication on GNU/Linux operating systems.

SeeedStudio BeagleBone Green Wireless includes two Grove connectors. The board is available for pre-order right now from Seeed's Bazzar for the retail price of $44.9 (€39.99).
