When you discovered tree houses when you were a kid, you probably begged your parents for one. You may have even drawn up a rudimentary blueprint, plotted out which limbs on your backyard tree would act as support beams, and inspected plywood in Home Depot as your dad picked up some mulch. Not many of us got those treetop hideaways, but there's some magic about them that is easily reignited an old flame that definitely sparked when we came across these inspiring castle tree houses.

The four tiny beauties are called the Châteaux Dans Les Arbres, and are hidden in the lush, green Perigord region of France, about 100 miles outside Bordeaux. And they're not just for show: You can rent them for vacation! (Rates start at about $300 per night.)

We're not planning an escape to the European countryside anytime soon, but this sneak peek at the accommodations makes us giddy. For starters, you need to cross a moat (a real moat!) to reach the cute cabins (each built from sustainable wood). Plus, when you're not busy enjoying the trees and other wildlife surrounding your house, you can take in a view of nearby Castle Biron. And while the tree houses' je ne sais quoi is enough to make you want to pack your bags, their hot tubs, fireplaces, and full kitchens seal the deal.
