HUNTSVILLE, Alabama -- Crestwood Medical Center, for the third year in a row, has been named a "Top Performer on Key Quality Measures" by the nation's leading health care accreditation agency.
The Joint Commission issued the designation for 2013. The Top Performer program, according to its website, is based on data reported in the previous year about hospitals' performance in treating certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care, children's asthma, inpatient psychiatric services, stroke, venous thromboembolism, immunization and perinatal care.
Crestwood was recognized for 2013 in the areas of heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care.
According to the Joint Commission's 2014 annual report, about 37 percent, or 1,224, commission-accredited hospitals that reported accountability measure performance data for 2013 are Top Performer hospitals.
"Crestwood Medical Center is one of just 314 hospitals to have achieved this
accomplishment for three consecutive years," a news release from the hospital stated. "It was recognized in 2011, 2012 and 2013 for its performance on accountability measure data."
Dr. Pam Hudson, chief executive officer of Crestwood, said the latest designation shows that the Huntsville community can turn to the hospital with confidence.
"Following evidence-based clinical protocols close to 100 percent of the time is not an easy goal to reach, but one that has been achieved through the dedication of our physicians, nurses and other caregivers," Hudson said.
