You'd think it'd be a given that pumpkin spice lattes (and many other seasonal treats) are made with actual pumpkin, but alas, that's not always the case. Starbucks did in fact add real pumpkin to its PSL in 2015, and the taste of the natural ingredients really comes through. But what could be better than making a fresh syrup at home to add to your own coffee in the morning?

Try this smooth, spiced, pumpkin-puree-based syrup that's simple to make. Add a glug or two to your coffee, shake it up into a margarita, or drizzle it over pancakes (or even ice cream!) — the options for pumpkin spicing up your life are nearly endless.

Pumpkin Spice Syrup

YieldAbout 1 cup syrup

Adapted from Camarena Tequila

INGREDIENTS

    • 1 (15-ounce) can pumpkin puree
    • 1/2 cup brown sugar
    • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
    • 1/2 tablespoon cinnamon
    • 1 pinch nutmeg
    • 1 cups water

    INSTRUCTIONS

    1. Add all ingredients to a saucepan set over low heat; whisk together until smooth. Simmer for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally.

    2. Remove from heat, cool, and strain into a bottle.
