No wonder it’s named the Duet. Smart table-maker Ideum has rolled out a new genius of a living room showpiece, and the really cool thing about it is that the new Duet multi-touch coffee table runs on both Android and Windows 8. Yes, you heard that right — it’s a coffee table, aaaand it’s also a table-top computer that runs Microsoft’s latest OS plus Android on a separate system. Pretty nifty.

The Ideum Duet is envisioned as a hub enabling you to control various home devices via Bluetooth and WiFi. As of the moment, the Duet seamlessly combines Android 4.4 KitKat and Windows 8 so you can do more even when you’re lounging on the living room sofa. Each OS is run by two independent computer systems, blended together by an Intel Edison mini-computer to allow problem-free switching between platforms. A 2.0GHz Rockchip RK3288 and 2GB RAM plus 16GB on-board storage handles the Android side, while different components power the Windows aspect of the Duet, depending on the actual size of the table. The 42-inch table sports a 3.2 GHz Intel Core i5-4570R processor with integrated Iris Pro Graphics 5200, 8GB RAM and 256 GB SSD storage. Meanwhile, the 46-inch model runs on 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7-4710HQ chip, with dedicated Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 graphics card, 16 GB memory, and 512 GB SSD storage, offering significantly more power.

Ah, but don’t forget, the Duet is a coffee table, albeit one that you can play games on, read the news, update your Facebook status, or control the thermostat with. You need not fear breaking it as the display is chemically strengthened and even has an anti-glare coating. It can detect up to 60 simultaneous touch points when running Windows, and up to 12 if you’re using Android. As for the table itself, it is built from a combination of aircraft-grade aluminum and cold-rolled steel. The 46-inch variant carries IP54 water resistance so you don’t need to worry about spilling coffee on the Duet (but why would you do that, duh).

Ideum would want you to have a Duet coffee table in your home, but it’s also perfect for museums, schools, and office settings. Shipping will start this February; just be ready to shell out at least USD$7,950 for this perfect living room showpiece.
