A corporate promotional products company making official souvenirs for fans of the Hong Kong police force (don’t all rush at once) has removed an adorable “tear smoke” figurine set from its website.
Awesome local blog Hong Wrong picked up on the rather bad-taste toys this week, after which we noticed that Yorkview, who made the officially approved collectables, had mysteriously removed the set from their site. If they were trying to avoid a PR fallout, however, you’d think they would have also removed the single figurines… but maybe they’re not so threatening.
Clearly these cute little fellas have been available to buy for some time (a bargain at just HKD55 each), way before the Occupy Central protests made them particularly unpalatable. It is difficult to believe they were ever signed off on, whatever the political landscape, however.
