This week the shortlist for Britain’s top literary award, the Man Booker 2014, included American titles for the first time. We asked writers and critics, including Martin Amis, Julian Barnes, Curtis Sittenfeld, Edna O’Brien and Joshua Ferris, which novels should have won had US authors been eligible throughout the prize’s history.
