Famed screenwriter and TV series producer Aaron Sorkin has confirmed last week’s reports that Christian Bale will play Apple co-founder Steve Jobs in the Danny Boyle-directed biopic which Sorkin wrote. Speaking with Bloomberg, Sorkin said:
“We needed the best actor on the board in a certain age range and that’s Chris Bale. He didn’t have to audition. Well, there was a meeting.”
As previously revealed, the project will be three long segments following Jobs backstage before the launches of three famous Apple products – the Mac, the NeXT and the very first generation of iPod. As it’s a Sorkin script as well, there’s no shortage of rapid-fire dialogue according to the writer himself:
“He has more words to say in this movie than most people have in three movies combined. There isn’t a scene or a frame that he’s not in. So it’s an extremely difficult part and he is gonna crush it.”
Bale was the top choice of director David Fincher when he was attached, before Fincher departed in April. Danny Boyle entered talks to direct a version with Leonardo DiCaprio, but the latter dropped out of talks earlier this month.
