ways to read a verse a day

When I was a kid, I remember having a box of Bible verses that was shaped in a loaf of bread. Anyone else have one of those growing up? There were seasons when we read a verse a day at breakfast and I remember a time when my mom gave each of us a turn to pull the card out of the box. I think we may have scrapped a few times over whose turn it was. Don’t tell my kids.

Sometimes the simple act of reading one Scripture verse at a given point can make all the difference in the world. Has that ever happened to you? You’re going about your day, maybe you spent some time first thing in the morning reading God’s word and praying, but sometime throughout the day, a Bible verse crossed your path that changed your perspective right in the moment. This happened to me yesterday when I read the Facebook status of a relative. And I was so thankful for her.

Saturating our lives with Scripture is so very important. One of the simplest ways to get more Scripture in everyday living is to be purposeful about reading a verse a day. Today I wanted to share with you some innovative ways to read a Scripture verse a day. Let’s go:

1. Verse-A-Day app

The Verse-A-Day app is a wonderful way to be purposeful in the quest to add more Scripture to your life. You can choose your preferred Bible translation and share the verse on social media if you choose. If you have a smart phone, this app is available in the App Store and for Android.I’d love to hear about your experience if you add this app to your phone or tablet. You can get started here.

2. Verse of the Day website and Facebook page

The Verse of the Day website provides a daily verse from the NIV (1984) and this verse is posted on the site’s Facebook page. On the website, the team offers a daily visual graphic of the same verse. Sweet way to enjoy and share God’s Word!

3. Bible Gateway

Each day,my friends at Bible Gateway posts a verse of the day at the top of their website.

4. Bible Apps including Logos, Olive Tree Bible, Bible Gateway, YouVersion, etc.

The top Bible apps I’ve outlined previously also offer a Scripture verse a day feature.

5. The Good Ol’ Bread Box

Who knew you can still buy “Our Daily Bread” Promise Box? I love this treasure because it brings such sweet memories of my mom’s kitchen and the little spot where it sat on the counter day in and day out, season after season.

6. The Christmas edition of God’s Promise Box

Isn’t this a great idea for an office desk or to keep one in your kitchen window?

7. Chalkboard

I believe there is a reason the old country school teachers began the day with writing a Bible verse on the chalkboard. The act of writing it forces your mind to think more about the verse than simply reading it. I wonder if it was more for the teacher than the students. 🙂 I found this super cute way to make your own simple chalkboard on any wall:

You can find an inspirational list of 30 Bible verses that would be fantastic to use on this board at one a day for a month.

8. Bible Screen

I’m not quite sure of the frequency of the daily verses posted by Bible Screen, but they offer many avenues of receiving free Bible art. Check them out!

9. K-LOVE Radio

K-Love offers an email subscription service to receive a Bible verse a day delivered right to your email inbox. Sweet!

10. God’s Promises Perpetual Calendar

I researched many perpetual calendars and chose this one because of the daily Scripture verse included.

And now I’ve LOVE to hear from you! What are your favorite ways to grab a Bible verse to meditate on?

  1. I Love these! And these can all easily be incorporated in your day with your kids too! Great ideas!

  2. I love getting my verse of the day in my email from Bible Gateway. I’m getting my emails on my smartphone because my computer is down, so no matter what I’m doing, or no matter where I am, it shows up and blesses me.
