Spain’s pharma trade body Farmaindustria has appointed Esteve’s Antoni Esteve as its new president.
He will replace Elvira Sanz, president of Pfizer’s Spanish operation, fulfilling the organisation’s statute of alternating presidency between the head of domestic and foreign companies.
Esteve is president of Isdin, part of the his family’s Esteve group that is based in Spain. He acknowledged that a key challenge will be ensuring quality patient access to innovative drugs and treatments at all times.
Esteve added over the next few years he will be “seeking new funding formulas and policies to ensure the sustainability of health systems so that they are compatible with the incorporation of the most advanced therapies.”
The decision was made during the Farmaindustria general assembly, which met in special session in Madrid and was opened by the Spanish minister for health, social services and quality, Ana Mato.
