Use these commands and fix Evil Within on PC

The PC version of The Evil Within features some graphical limitations that will annoy those with high-end systems. The game ships with a hard lock at 30 frames per second, at a 2.35:1 aspect ratio. This is how the game is meant to be played, according to Bethesda.

"The team has worked the last four years perfecting the game experience with these settings in mind. For PC players, we’ll provide debug commands on how you can alter the framerate and aspect ratio, but these commands and changes are not recommended or supported and we suggest everyone play the game as it was designed and intended for the best experience," the official blog stated.

The debug commands have since been released. This is how you access them:

  • In Steam, right click on The Evil Within and select "properties," then under the General tab hit "set launch options."
  • Put this in to unlock the console: +com_allowconsole 1
  • Once the game has launched, hit the Insert key to bring down the developer console.

Bethesda has provided a handy list of commands, and you can do everything from setting the framerate to 60 frames per second to giving yourself unlimited ammo. You can also fully unlock the framerate if you'd like, but Bethesda doesn't recommend this approach.

"We do not recommend playing above 60," the instructions say. "We will not fix any issues above 60." You're adjusting things at your own risk, but at least the option is there.
